I have to say, doing studio visits with Chris Jehly is one of my favorite experiences. He works on a few pieces at a time and he works on a large scale so the process can take awhile. During this time he keeps 4 or 5 works in constant flux and evolution. Each time I pay him a visit, the piece he’s been working on will have completely morphed. Where there were once frenzied lines and neon colors, portraits of comic characters and rich blues that reach out to envelop you have taken over. And yet, each stage of the evolution holds it’s own without being drowned out by the newer phases fighting for attention.
Chris will be showing his latest work at Front Room Gallery in Brooklyn this Friday alongside the following artists:
Fred Tomaselli, Gregory de la Haba, Bruce Checefsky, Jesse Lambert, Chris Clary, David Kramer, Patricia Fabricant, Lorella Paleni, J. Fiber, Brent Ridge, Linda Ganjian, Cham Giobbi, Jeanne Tremel, and Amy Hill.
I encourage anyone on the area to drop by and check out “Cloud Nine” curated by Larry Walczak, this Friday from 7-9pm
